If you are interested in your child attending the Club Yicketty Yak program your child will need to attend a Club Yak assessment at our Speech Pathology Clinic (Once Upon A Time Therapy).
If you are already attending therapy with an Optimal Communications Speech Pathologist and you have attended a comprehensive speech and language assessment previously, then we may be able to determine your suitability for the program based on this information if this is current.
The assessment enables us to evaluate your child’s skills across the skills being supported during the program. This will include:
- receptive vocabulary skills
- receptive language skills
- expressive language skills
- speech-articulation and phonological processing skills
- early literacy skills for reading, spelling and writing
- social communication skills
- attention, concentration and learning behaviour
Attendance at the screen assessment does not guarantee a place in the Club Yicketty Yak program. The program has been developed to support a specific communication challenges in young children. Selection for the group will be determined by the Speech Pathology Team and you will be recommended which day would best suit your child based on this assessment.
Screen assessment fees: The screen assessment will be one hour and costs $140 (GST free) which is a reduced fee from the initial assessment fee if you are attending for individual therapy only. The Club Yak screen is not designed to replace a comprehensive speech, language and literacy assessment and in some instances, a child require further assessments to be conducted based on the complexity of their communication challenges and degree of specialised support required. Your Speech Pathologist will notify you of this as required.
What if I already attend a Speech Pathologist?
Some children may already be attending Speech Therapy with another Speech Pathologist in the community or at their school or kindergarten. Your child may already have attended a comprehensive assessment and have a report issued by your Speech Pathologist. In some circumstances this information may be current and have assessed the skills that we are addressing in the group and may suffice for direct entry to the program. We do, however, recommend an initial visit being a one hour consultation ($140) so that you and your child can meet us, we can evaluate this information and in some instances complete additional pre-group tests so that we can get to know you, evaluate this information and best prescribe the most appropriate group to attend. This enables you to also ask specific questions so that you can be sure about your attendance on the Club Yicketty Yak Program.
Reports: The assessment does not provide a report on entry to the group. A group completion report will be provided when the participant completes the program.
Bookings and Registration: Bookings can be made with our administration staff at “Once Upon A Time Therapy”. Groups are limited to 10 children and booking will not be confirmed until your deposit ($300) is paid. Full Club Yak program fees will need to be paid in full 7 days before attendance to secure your place.
Cancellation fees: Children are to attend all 10 weeks. If children are unable to attend for some reason, they will benefit from the online support program and information sent to you to support this missed week. There are no refunds for failure to attend.
As the program has been developed and budgeted for a set of 10 participants, it is very important for us that children and family follow through with the entire program to graduation. Children who leave the group during the program will forfeit 50% of their course fees which have been invested with development, business expenses, staff and equipment expenses to bring this program to you. Please be mindful in your choice to attend-then discontinue-you may have inhibited another child attending that group that has needed to wait for sometime until the next group commences.
We trust you are more than happy with the program and the benefits that it will provide to your family and your child. We look forward to having you as part of our community.
